Hot Cross Buns by Fannie Farmer

  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tbs yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup currants

Add butter, sugar, and salt to milk.   When milk is lukewarm add yeast, cinnamon, flour, and egg well beaten.  Finally add raisins and currants.  Let rest over night.  In the morning form large biscuits.  You can cut an “x” into the biscuit.  Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar as topping.  Bake at 350 until golden brown.
